The book was filled with great stories about Mort Mason and his trials and tribulations as a Bush Pilot in Alaska. Mort left his email address in the back of the book and I emailed him about my upcoming trip. I am a pilot and wanted to tie in some Alaska float plane and bush flying training into the trip.
Great read. He gave me all sort of tips about the trip.Mort is not only a great bush pilot, but also a scholar and a gentleman. Highly recommend it.The most amazing thing happened after I read the book.
I have been to Alaska 3 times in the last 10 years as a ground based tourist and am planning a trip up to the "Big Empty" this summer with some friends and wanted to do the sightseeing by air. How did Mort survive all of these adventures. I true ambassador to the "Big Empty."Thanks Mort.Looking forward to your new book in February.
I wanted to know more about flying in Alaska before I just went out and booked some instruction, so I decided to pick up "Flying the Alaska Wild."What a great find. My jaw was on the floor throughout the book.
He gives you good technical info on flying, but it's not dry and it's easy to understand, even for the non-flier (like me). He's an amazing writer, a gifted story teller and, apparently, a hell of a pilot as well. His book makes me want to sit down on a wooden swing on the back deck of an Alaska cabin and listen to him tell stories all night long. Oh, wow. An awesome read. Mort Mason's personality is hilarious, and he does an amazing job making life as an Alaska bush pilot come to life. This book is fantastic. He imbues the book with humor and warmth, isn't afraid to make fun of himself, and he leaves the reader with a true understanding of how Alaska and bush flying can become a part of your soul and your identity.
Well written. The book is interesting and only a bit technical. I enjoyed the book. I'm a flight simulator fan.
Again, GREAT book. Trying to fly from here to there in Alaska makes for quite an adventure, sign me up. At other times, I found myself feeling like I was right in the co-pilot's seat seeing the world as he saw it.
I really enjoyed the way the author decribed the various (and precarious) places he found himself in. what's going to happen. This book is a great read.
is he going to make it.I found the book quite edge of the seat at times, hoping he would make it. Definitely a keeper.MJ The stories were very entertaining to the point of: I can't put down this book right now.
read faster.
its easy on my imagination if that makes any sense. if u like the book, his email address is in the back. i'm only into the 3rd chapter of this book but i have really enjoyed the read thus far. will certainly enjoy reading the rest. just makes it that much more personal. i'm not a pilot but i do alot of flying in flight sims so i have at least 1/2 a clue as to what he's talking about. its well written, easy to understand, descriptive but not to a point where u get lost in the details.
